Life is not just about passing days — it is about making those days meaningful. When the esteemed Shaykh al-Islām Muftī Muḥammad Taqī ʿUsmānī (may Allah preserve him) was once asked: “What is the essence of life?” he gifted the Ummah twenty priceless lessons.

These are not abstract ideas, but practical principles that bring barakah (blessings), peace, and direction to our lives. 🌿

📜 The 20 Lessons

1. Gratitude in Every Circumstance

Always thank Allah ﷻ in ease and in hardship.

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor].” (Qur’an 14:7)

2. Live Without Complaints

Strive to live so no one ever complains against you — not to people, not to Allah.

3. Avoid Rivalry in Family

Never compete with family. Even if you accept loss, you win peace. Time reveals true results.

4. Be a Giver, Not a Taker

Do not boast about being a scholar. Instead, be generous and humble.

5. Cherish the Dining Table at Home

The greatest dining table is at home. What is written for you will reach you — like royalty.

6. Place Hopes Only in Allah

Do not depend on people. True reliance (tawakkul) is upon Allah alone.

7. Improve Daily

Every day should be better than yesterday. Growth defines a believer.

8. Avoid the Arrogant & Wealth-Worshippers

Their company hardens the heart. Stay with the humble.

9. Charity in the Morning, Forgiveness at Night

Give charity at the start of the day, and seek forgiveness (istighfār) before sleep.

10. Speak Sweetly

Gentle words heal hearts. Harshness breaks them.

11. Lower Your Voice

Even with children, never shout. The Prophet ﷺ never raised his voice in arrogance.

12. Respect Your Livelihood

Honour your means of earning. Allah will bless your rizq (sustenance).

13. Sit with the Successful

The company you keep will shape your destiny.

14. Respect Every Skill

Value every professional — teacher, craftsman, worker. Every skill is Allah’s gift.

15. Honour Parents, Teachers & Relatives

The more respect you show, the more your life and sustenance will be blessed.

16. Choose Moderation

Balance is the hallmark of Islam. Avoid extremes in worship and worldly matters.

17. Stay Connected with the Common People

Wisdom is not limited to scholars — you can learn much from ordinary people too.

18. Do Not Complain About People

Carrying tales spreads hatred. The Prophet ﷺ disliked those who complain about others.

19. Present Matters Positively

A positive presentation can solve problems before they even arise.

20. Remain Silent Before Elders

Silence in front of elders is a sign of respect and wisdom.

🌹 A Duʿā for Mercy & Guidance

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا
(Qur’an 18:10)

✨ Conclusion

These twenty lessons are not just advice — they are keys to a successful, peaceful, and blessed life. By adopting gratitude, humility, and reliance upon Allah, we can walk the path of true success in this world and the Hereafter.
